Fencer Bhavani Devi tops pool, eyes historic Asian Games medal


Indian fencer Bhavani Devi has advanced to the women’s sabre individual pre-quarterfinals at the Asian Games, securing the top rank in her pool. She won all five of her preliminary round matches, defeating opponents from Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Bangladesh. Bhavani Devi, who was the first Indian fencer to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, is now aiming to win an Asian Games fencing medal as she faces Thailand’s Tonkhaw Phokaew in the round of 16.
